After talking to several family members who are committed MAGA there appears to be nothing that will change their minds. They are unconcerned about his future power grab plans, his authoritarian impulses or indictments and possible convictions. They believe he is going to destroy the whole corrupt system. Facts mean nothing to these folks. If they come out to support Trump in the primaries I don't see a scenario where he is not the nominee. Your thoughts?
After Germany’s capitulation in the spring of 1945, the large numbers of Hitler’s enthusiastic followers went silent. They didn’t go away (except for those who fled to Argentina); they mostly just hid their swastikas. The hate didn’t disappear, but it became officially unacceptable. A democratic government took root under the supervision of the Allies, so that today, three generations later, Germany is home to one of the world’s strongest democracies. To any thoughtful student of history, the present drift toward fascism in the United States is frighteningly reminiscent of what my parents’ generation put everything on the line to oppose. Although it is encouraging that Donald Trump and many of his followers are now having to answer for their crimes, it’s impossible to ignore how perilously far the United States has drifted toward fascism. Publicly bringing MAGA’s leaders to trial — a la Nuremberg — cannot be expected to make haters stop hating, but can we hope that it'll at least make them circumspect enough to shut the f*ck up?
